FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT

MARCH 14, 2021 | 10:00 AM

WELCOME TO ONLINE WORSHIP AT FIRST CHURCH!

Welcome to all who gather to worship online today! We hope you feel the warmth of God’s presence and welcome right where you’re at. If this if your first time joining us online, we are honored by your presence and hope to see you again soon! To stay informed, please subscribe to our weekly email.

Today's service was made using video from this week's live In-Person Outdoor Worship gathering at First Church's paved parking lot. We invite you to join us in person next Sunday at 10:00 AM (weather permitting) to worship the Lord together!

ABOUT US

First, we’re not just friendly, we’re friends! Our primary belief is that everyone (no exceptions!) is created in the loving image of God, who is love itself.

Second, in everything we do, we strive to live our mission: By the power of Christ, we are blessed to be a blessing!

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP

(the people’s words in bold print)

PRAISE PRELUDE

"Go So Loved the World"

(John Stainer, arr. James Koerts)

“God Is So Good”

(anonymous)

God is so good; God is so good;

God is so good; God’s so good to me!

God cares for me; God cares for me;

God cares for me; God’s so good to me!

God loves us so; God loves us so;

God loves us so; God’s so good to us!

We worship God; we worship God;

we worship God; praise and thanks to God!

WELCOME!

CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 107)

Give thanks to the Lord, for God is good!

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so:

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

OPENING HYMN

“To God Be the Glory”

(TO GOD BE THE GLORY)

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord of grace and mercy, if you held our sin against us, who could live? We seem to have more faith in death than hope in your promise of life. Forgive us for choosing to live in ways that lead to destruction. Renew us, that we may live in hope and new life! Amen.

DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS

There is forgiveness with God in Jesus Christ! Being forgiven, we are freed to choose life! Brothers and sisters, this day and every day, believe the Good News of the Gospel:

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Amen!

WE EXPERIENCE GOD’S WORD

SCRIPTURE READING - EPISTLE LESSON

Ephesians 2:1-10

1 You were dead through the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. 3 All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us 5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

MESSAGE

"From Death to Life for Good"

Rev. Lisa Martin, Pastor

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

(from the Patmos Abbey, Order of St. Columba, in Australia)

We believe that our lives are held within the encircling love of God, who knows our names and recognizes our deepest needs. We believe that Christ is the divine Child of the living God, and that his grace is like living waters that can never be exhausted. We believe in the birthing, renewing, enabling Spirit of God who yearns over our welfare as a mother yearns for her child. We believe that God is in the arid desert as well as in green pastures, and that hard times and disciplines are also loving gifts. We believe that our journey has a purpose and a destination, and that our path leads to a glory we cannot yet imagine. We believe that in the church we are fellow pilgrims on the road, and that we are called to love one another as God loves us. This is our faith and we are humbled to profess it in Jesus the Christ. Amen

MUSICAL MEDITATION

“You Are My All in All”

(Dennis Jernigan)

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD'S PRAYER

PRAYER RESPONSE

“O Lord, Hear My Prayer”

(HEAR MY PRAYER)

O Lord, hear my prayer. O Lord, hear my prayer.

When I call, answer me.

O Lord, hear my prayer. O Lord, hear my prayer.

Come and listen to me.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
