ABOUT US

First, we’re not just friendly, we’re friends! Our primary belief is that everyone (no exceptions!) is created in the loving image of God, who is love itself.

Second, in everything we do, we strive to live our mission: By the power of Christ, we are blessed to be a blessing!

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP

(the people’s words in bold print)

PRELUDE + CHIMING OF THE HOUR

“Prelude on 'Foundation'”

(R. Elliot)

CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 147)

How good it is to sing praises to our God;

for God is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting!

The Lord heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

The Lord takes pleasure in those who revere him.

The Lord delights in those who hope in God!

OPENING HYMN

“Come into God's Presence”

(COME INTO HIS PRESENCE)

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Loving God, you bring healing to our lives and comfort to our hearts. Forgive us when we contribute to the things that break your heart: keeping our resources close and our minds closed; isolating ourselves and eying our neighbors with mistrust; separating ourselves from anyone we deem different. Forgive us by your grace, and free us to be your agents of healing and hope. In Christ the Great Physician we pray, Amen!

DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS

God heals the brokenhearted and binds up the wounds of all who are afflicted. God’s pleasure is in forgiving! Be reconciled to God and be at peace, for in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Amen!

JOYFUL RESPONSE

“We are Forgiven”

(TEXT: Trad. liturgical text; MUSIC: Hal H. Hopson)

We are forgiven.

We are forgiven.

Thanks be to God.

Thanks be to God.

(repeat)

WE EXPERIENCE GOD’S WORD

SCRIPTURE READING - OLD TESTAMENT LESSON

Isaiah 40:28-31

Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
   the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
   his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
   and strengthens the powerless.
Even youths will faint and be weary,
   and the young will fall exhausted;
but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
   they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
   they shall walk and not faint.

SCRIPTURE READING - THE GOSPEL

Mark 1:29-39

As soon as they left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them.

That evening, at sunset, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door. And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.” And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons.
