14TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

SEPTEMBER 6, 2020 | 10:00 AM

WELCOME TO ONLINE WORSHIP AT FIRST CHURCH!

Welcome to all who gather to worship online today! We hope you feel the warmth of God’s presence and welcome right where you’re at. If this if your first time joining us online, we are honored by your presence and hope to see you again soon! To stay informed, please subscribe to our weekly email.

We give thanks to God today to share worship with First Presbyterian
Church of Fort Walton Beach! Rev. Sharon Shuler, pastor, suffered a
broken hip earlier this summer and is recuperating at home. Let us be in
prayer for Sharon and for all our brothers and sisters of First Church, Fort Walton Beach.

Today we receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Please ready your
hearts and minds to receive the gifts of God for the people of God. Everyone is welcome to the Lord’s Table!

ABOUT US

First, we’re not just friendly, we’re friends! Our primary belief is that everyone (no exceptions!) is created in the loving image of God, who is love itself.

Second, in everything we do, we strive to live our mission: By the power of Christ, we are blessed to be a blessing!

PRELUDE

“Communion Meditations”

(MUSIC: Lani Smith)

CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 149)

Praise the Lord!

We will sing God’s praise in the community of the faithful!

The Lord takes pleasure in his people.

The faithful will sing for joy!

HYMN OF PRAISE

“Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”

(HYMN TO JOY)

OPENING PRAYER

(pray together)

God of glory, Lord of love, we give you thanks this day as we worship you in spirit and in truth. By the power of your Holy Spirit, give us hearts, minds, and wills that are open to learning from Christ what it means to be authentic community together. Make us ready to receive the Sacrament of grace from your Welcome Table. In joyful adoration we pray, Amen!

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

(pray together)

Lord God, we confess that too often we enjoy holding grudges, mumbling gossip, and forgetting that you are God and we are not. We have not loved you with our whole heart, nor have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. Forgive us, we pray. Restore us to yourself, so that we may follow the Word-made-flesh, Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen.

DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS

The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. Let us trust in the goodness of God who saves us through Jesus Christ. We are forgiven!

Thanks be to God!

WE EXPERIENCE GOD’S WORD

SCRIPTURE READING - THE GOSPEL LESSON

Matthew 18:15-20

15 “If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. 16 But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 18 Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19 Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”
