22ND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
ALL SAINTS DAY
NOVEMBER 1, 2020 | 10:00 AM
WELCOME TO ONLINE WORSHIP AT FIRST CHURCH!
Welcome to all who gather to worship online today! We hope you feel the warmth of God’s presence and welcome right where you’re at. If this if your first time joining us online, we are honored by your presence and hope to see you again soon! To stay informed, please subscribe to our weekly email.
First, we’re not just friendly, we’re friends! Our primary belief is that everyone (no exceptions!) is created in the loving image of God, who is love itself.
Second, in everything we do, we strive to live our mission: By the power of Christ, we are blessed to be a blessing!
WE GATHER TO WORSHIP
(the people’s words in bold print)
PRELUDE + CHIMING OF THE HOUR
“With the Saints in Glory Shining”
CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 34)
We will bless the Lord at all times!
God’s praise will flow from our lips!
Our souls’ boast is in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
Let us magnify and exalt God’s name together!
We join with that great cloud of witnesses
who forever sing to the glory of God’s holy name!
HYMN OF PRAISE
“The Church's One Foundation”
We praise you, O God, for your kingdom which is forever, and for saints who led the way so that we may worship you freely. As we celebrate their memory, enable us by your Spirit to lead the way for others. In Christ’s name, Amen.
CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, you call us your own children and cover us with your love. We would seek to be merciful as you are, and to show compassion as you do, but we fail to live the life to which we have been called. Where we ought to forgive, we condemn; the evil we should shun, we embrace. Forgive our sinful ways, tame our wayward wills, and make us more like Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS
Sisters and brothers, whoever takes refuge in God will be saved. Believe the Good News: in Jesus Christ we are forgiven!
Thanks be to God!
WE EXPERIENCE GOD’S WORD
SCRIPTURE READING - THE NEW TESTAMENT LESSON
I John 3:1-3
1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. 3 And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
