ABOUT US

First, we’re not just friendly, we’re friends! Our primary belief is that everyone (no exceptions!) is created in the loving image of God, who is love itself.

Second, in everything we do, we strive to live our mission: By the power of Christ, we are blessed to be a blessing!

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP

(the people’s words in bold print)

PRELUDE + CHIMING OF THE HOUR

“Praise to the Lord!”

(arr. Brad Thoreson)

CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 50)

The mighty one, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.

Our God comes and does not keep silence.

The heavens declare God’s righteousness!

HYMN OF PRAISE

“The Mighty God with Power Speaks”

(KINGSFOLD)

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Mighty God, we are blessed by your mercy, yet we deserve your judgment. Forgive us for the ways we refuse to open ourselves to your guidance and transforming power. Save us once more, we pray, by the power of your Spirit at work in our lives, that we, like the heavens, may declare your beauty and righteousness. In Christ we pray, Amen!

DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS

The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. By the blessing and power of God through Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Let us live free and whole! Amen!

JOYFUL RESPONSE

“We are Forgiven”

(TEXT: Trad. liturgical text; MUSIC: Hal H. Hopson)

We are forgiven.

We are forgiven.

Thanks be to God.

Thanks be to God.

(repeat)

WE EXPERIENCE GOD’S WORD

SCRIPTURE READING - EPISTLE LESSON

II Corinthians 4:5-6

5 For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. 6 For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

SCRIPTURE READING - THE GOSPEL

Mark 9:2-9

2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5 Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” 8 Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.

9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
