WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP

Evening has come; darkness soon will fall on the face of the earth.

Silence grows, movements cease, night closes in around creation.

To God both dark and light are one; the whole creation rests in God's embrace.

Let us be still and know that God blesses us all.

HYMN (read or sing quietly)

“There's a Sweet, Sweet Spirit”

SWEET, SWEET SPIRIT

There's a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place,

and I know that it's the Spirit of the Lord;

there are sweet expressions on each face,

and I know they feel the presence of the Lord.

Refrain:

Sweet Holy Spirit, sweet heavenly Dove,

stay right here with us, filling us with your love;

and for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise;

without a doubt we'll know that we have been revived

when we shall leave this place.

There are blessings you cannot receive

till you know him in his fullness and believe;

you're the one to profit when you say,

"I am going to walk with Jesus all the way."

(Refrain)

REFLECTIONS ON THE DAY ENDING

In the quietness of this place, let us remember before God all that has been part of this day. Let us remember the people with whom we have shared life today.… God we thank you for the people who have been with us and around us today and we pray for your blessing upon them tonight.

God of all, hear our prayer.

Let us remember all the activities we have enjoyed today, worship and witness, rest and work. … God we thank you for all that has been ours today.

God of all, hear our prayer.

Let us think about the times today when we have done things we shouldn’t have or when our words have been hurtful.

God of mercy, forgive us the wrong we have done today so that we may rest secure tonight.

Let us also think about people in other places tonight – families and friends at home, anyone we know who is sick or upset, people in other parts of this country and world who face problems or who suffer in any way. … God of compassion, grant your peace and love this night to those we remember, and grant your help to all who need it at this time.

In the name of Christ we pray all these things, Amen.

RESPONSIVE PSALM 4

Answer me when I call to you, O God! You have relieved me in my distress; be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

How long will God’s honor suffer shame? How long will we love what is worthless and seek after lies?

The Lord sets apart the faithful; the Lord hears when I call to Him.

When disturbed, do not sin. Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still.

Offer sacrifices of right living, and trust in the Lord.

Many are saying, “Who will show us any good?” Lift up the light of your countenance upon us, O Lord!

God has put gladness in my heart, more than when grain and new wine abound.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep; the Lord alone makes me dwell in safety.

MEDITATION ON THE WORD

Rev. Lisa Martin, Pastor

“Amazing Grace”

Ashley Everhart and Brad Thoreson

EVENING PRAYERS & THE LORD’S PRAYER

(pray together quietly or in silence)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

HYMN (read or sing quietly)

“Abide with Me”

EVENTIDE

Abide with me: fast falls the eventide.

The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide!

When other helpers fail and comforts flee,

help of the helpless, O abide with me.

I need thy presence every passing hour;

what but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?

Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be?

Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

BENEDICTION AND

THREE-FOLD AMEN (quietly sing together)

Amen, Amen, Amen.

POSTLUDE

“The Solid Rock”

W. Bradbury, arr. Paul Ferrin

Special thanks to Ashley Everhart for participating in this evening's service.
